Ladera Ranch Resident Appointed to
Santa Margarita Water District Board of Directors

Las Flores, CA (April 14, 2008) - The Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD) Board of Directors today voted unanimously to appoint Ladera Ranch resident and former HOA President Bill Lawson to the District’s five-member governing Board. Lawson’s appointment fills the seat left vacant by the passing of longtime SMWD board member, Sam Johnson.

“It is a privilege to continue to serve the community and to have been entrusted with such a great responsibility,” said Lawson.

The District announced in February it would seek to fill the vacant seat and received 14 applications from candidates across the SMWD service area. All of the candidates were invited to be interviewed at a public meeting on April 11 and the Board reconvened today to make its final determination. The appointment was made prior to the April 15th statutory deadline to fill the vacant seat. Lawson’s appointment will last until November, when the position will be up for election.

“As a public servant, I was very encouraged to see such great interest from so many qualified individuals,” said SMWD Board President Roger Faubel. “There were many well qualified candidates, so this was not an easy decision. But in the end, it was with both deliberation and unanimity that we selected Mr. Lawson to serve.”

In December of 1999, Mr. Lawson’s family was one of the first to move in to the Ladera Ranch community where he continues to live with his wife Tina and two children, Logan 10, and Bailey 7. Mr. Lawson is a founding principal with the planning and engineering firm Urban Crossroads, Inc. He served on the Ladera Ranch Maintenance Corporation (LARMAC) from 2000 through 2006 and oversaw the City of Rancho Santa Margarita’s incorporation as director of the Cityhood Committee from 1997 to 2000.

In addition, Lawson is a certified Professional Transportation Planner, a registered member of the American Institute of Certified Planners as well as the Institute of Noise Control Engineers.
