Presents High School Scholarship Awards
Las Flores, CA - The Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD) recently
awarded scholarships to six graduating high school seniors as part of the
District’s annual Scholarship Program. The SMWD Scholarship Program was designed
to provide economic support to graduating high school students within SMWD’s
service area with an interest in pursuing a career in water, wastewater,
resources, conservation, water-related environmental issues or engineering.
Alexander Lee from Trabuco Hills High School and Braden Marks from Tesoro High
School each received a $1,000 scholarship. Alexander will be going to Duke
University in the fall and Braden plans to attend Cal State at Chico.
The following students received a $250 Honorable Mention Scholarship:
Aaron Katz, Tesoro Hish School – Plans to attend University of Colorado at
Boulder
Christopher Diamond, Tesoro High School – Plans to attend
University of California at Berkley
Davil Garcia, Trabuco Hills High School – Plans to attend
University of California at Riverside
Ryan Kraus, Trabuco Hills High School – Plans to attend
Brigham Young University
SMWD Board President Charlie Wilson praised all the winners for choosing to
pursue a career in water-related industries. “Water is such a precious natural
resource, and as our communities continue to grow, we need to find new
innovative methods to balance water use and conservation,” explained Wilson.

Santa Margarita
Water District is Orange County’s second-largest water district, providing water
and wastewater treatment services to a customer base of more than 150,000
residents and businesses in Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza,
Las Flores and inland southern Orange County, including the new communities of
Ladera Ranch and Talega.
